"I am." is the shortest complete sentence in the English language.

The term "the whole 9 yards" came from a WWII fighter pilot in the South Pacific. When arming their airplanes on the ground, the .50 caliber machine gun ammo belts measured exactly 27 feet, before being loaded into the fuselage. If the pilots fired all their ammo at a target, it got "the whole 9 yards.

Bar Talk

(We will be implementing a Tugboat bar chat room here very soon! Please come on back, belly up to the bar and put in your two cents worth!)

Send us your thoughts, questions, viewpoints, gripes, chokeholds, loving thoughts, etc. If they fit we'll put them up on this page. Just send us an email with "BarChat" in the subject area.

If you specifically want to avoid conversation with friendly, talented and insightful people, Tugboat may not be the place for you. Downtown's Tugboat Brewing Co. has a way of pulling you into its free thinking zone. Some of the topics this last week have been:

* Is our pinball machine, which is based around the personality of a robot woman, effected by a 28 day cycle?

* Terry is excited to have his target rifle come out of the shop, with its new target trigger. This should shrink his 100 yd. groups from the already acceptable 1/2 inch to even smaller.

* Some things in life don't exactly seem fair, Princess Di is lost and Don King lives on...(or is it Larry?)

* North by Northwest is coming to the Tugboat for the third year in a row. Oct. 16,17,18th. A must see for music fans.

* We at the Tugboat thank you very much for a great summer. We have been blessed with the best customers/ friends that any brew pub proprietors could ever ask for. As time goes on, the 'boat gets better and better.

* What came first, the chicken mcnugget or the egg mcmuffin?

*Investigative reporter and former Oregonian columnist- Phil Stanford, has decided to put his radio show on hold with KKEY 1150 a.m., as he is writing and editing with a few magazines. His show will be missed, and Portland and Vancouver will always remember the "Stanford and friends" talk show as one who was unafraid of detailing stories the major media wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole. Stanford spent much time discussing:

  • Our executive branch, their trouble with drug-use, pathological fibbing and sexual preoccupation.
  • Teachers unions, their power, their corruption and the effects on the readiness of our students who enter our economy
  • The bogus war on drugs, our governments involvement in continuing drug use, and how asset forfeiture shapes this.
  • Rush Limbaugh, his popularity and how he carries water for the multi-national corporate big boys.
  • Powerful Republicans and Democrats and how there isn't a dimes worth of difference between them.
There is a good chance that Phil will do a lecture series in the future, so keep your ears open, and when you see it, jump on it, it will surely be mind candy.

* Why would politicians ever limit campaign funding? Both parties are addicted to lobbyist and soft money like an addict is addicted to his (her) crack.
